Big Fun in The Big Easy

20141011_141612

We headed out from Artesia, New Mexico and made tracks to the Big Easy, yep New Orleans, Louisiana! πŸ™‚ The location has come up a time or two before but up until now the timing has been off. I mean really, who wants to work in the hellacious heat and humidity? It’s a good thing we didn’t head here sooner because guess what? It’s pretty hot and humid even in October! LoL

With only two days to get settled before Joe had to head into the plant, one afternoon was all the time we had to check things out … so we packed in as much as we could. We had never been here before, so we weren’t too sure what to expect, especially after Katrina’s wrath. I was pleasantly surprised by the laid back vibe. I’m not a city person so I’m usually a little tense in big crowds. But after we sat a quick little rain storm out I was ready to relax and let loose. (Maybe the loaded lemonade and sailor’s coffee had something to do with it πŸ™‚ )

We waited out the rain at the Palace Cafe. It was a great little spot to watch the pedestrian traffic rush from place to place. After a little Spinach Salad and Fried Oyster Loaf we were ready to head out. But darn, look more rain! So we were forced to try the White Chocolate Creme Brulee and Sailor’s Coffee. Poor us… lol.

It was fabulous and more than enough calories to get us hitting the French Quarter! We really just wandered around with no particular destination in mind. Here’s a glimpse of our day…

After the Battle of New Orleans, in 1815, the Plaza d Armas was renamed Jackson Square after the victorious United States general Andrew Jackson. In the center of the park stands an equestrian statue of Jackson erected in 1856.

So we did!

So we did!

A day in the Big Easy wouldn’t be complete without a few street performers …

Don’t take offense, but apparently it’s the universal hello sign in NOLA … honest!

"Hello!"

“Hello!”

Then the sun said “bonsoir” and well, most pics taken after that probably aren’t suitable for this blog. But here are a few safe ones. πŸ™‚

We had a fantastic time! The food was fabulous, the entertainment was rockin’ and the drinks … well, let’s just say we survived a Hand Granade or two!

  1. Oh Wendy, it brings back great memories for me too! I lived there for a year in my 20s. Had to move or I likely would not have survived to my 30s. LOL

What a great brief tour you provided!

    • It’s certainly a once or twice in a lifetime kind of town for me. LoL I can’t even imagine living here in any decade of my life, you go girl!! Recovering after one night of debauchery at almost 50 was hard enough! πŸ˜‰
