Welcome to our new House on Wheels!

Well, it’s taken me almost a week to get settled enough to put a quick post together to welcome everyone to our new (to us) House on Wheels … But here she is! ๐Ÿ™‚

Bringing home our new HOW 1.10.15 (Washington)

Now, you would think that bumping up in size from the 26′ TT to a 38′ 5th Wheel would have been a piece of cake to get organized and find a place for everything. Not so much. I am making progress, but I still feel like I need to make some changes and additions to really make the most of the storage we have now. It’s probably just because everything is so spaced out. LoL

Here’s the quick nickel tour …

The kitchen – lots of counter space and cabinets. But the best part is the Sharpe Micro/Convection oven!! It’s been three years since I had on oven!! Woohoo! ๐Ÿ™‚

The living room – The recliners are actually very comfortable and there’s plenty of floor space to get our workouts done! ๐Ÿ™‚

The steps leading to bed and bath – It seems strange to have stairs in our home again.

Shower – Much bigger than we’re used to and no cold shower curtain rubbing up against us! Even better than the extra elbow room, I don’t have to squat down at all to wash/rinse my hair!! LoL ๐Ÿ™‚

Separate Lav – Believe it or not, we had a hard time finding a separate lav with a basin in the room. I don’t really get that set up at all, but it’s quite common. Thankfully, this unit has a sink!

Laundry room – This was sort of unexpected and not an item on our must have list. But now that we have them I’m glad they’re here.

And finally, the bedroom – Look, there’s room on all three sides of the bed! I have to admit, it took me a minute to remember how to use lingerie draws again. LoL But, the built-ins are awesome. ๐Ÿ™‚

20150113_142627I wasn’t too sure about having a vanity and sink in the bedroom. But it actually works out great. It makes getting ready at the same time much easier. ๐Ÿ™‚

We are absolutely in love with our new home. Going from a 26′ travel trailer to this is obviously a big improvement. But honestly, we were so happy together in the little HOW it wasn’t as uncomfortable as some might think. Sure, it was a little cramped at times, but it was an awesome “bonding experience”. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Hey, we didn’t kill each other in less than 100 square feet, so we should be good for the long haul in this one now! LoL ๐Ÿ˜‰

Here’s one more look at the old HOW … thanks for the memories little one!

The slide was in when I took these pics. It isn’t quite that cramped inside!

One week from today it will be three years to the day since we left Connecticut with everything we wanted to take with us stuffed into the F150. (A look back on that day)

January 26, 2012 Leaving CT

January 26, 2012 Leaving CT

It seems hard to believe we’ve come so far in such a short time. We’ve made a lot of sacrifices along the way. Traveling thousands of miles with short lead times for projects, working crazy long days for weeks at a time, limiting our trips to see family to once a year, and going without many of the things we were accustomed to having in our sticks & bricks lifestyle, just to name a few.

While the sacrifices have been many, the truth is the experience has brought us closer together than I ever thought possible. Through the good times and scary times (Yes, there were a few – living in a tent and eating PB&J comes to mind. lol) we’ve conquered every challenge and weathered every storm. I am so proud of the man I chose to be my partner in this incredible adventure of life! He truly is the captain that leads our little team to victory day in and day out. I love you Babe!!

Naturally we will still face obstacles as we continue to live our nomadic lifestyle. But we are so excited to be facing them together with an even stronger foundation to build upon as we move forward. ๐Ÿ™‚

A toast to the future and the many happy miles and memories we have ahead!!

Americas Mailbox – A 5 Star Review

5 Star Review Americas Mailbox

5 Star Review Americas Mailbox

I hope everyone had a relaxing and peaceful holiday. We’ve been a bit busy as of late with the purchase of the truck and we’re still in the market for our next rig. We’ve got it narrowed down to a couple we like, but for now I’m going to keep our list under wraps. ๐Ÿ˜‰

However, I do want to share a recent experience that I’m sure may be useful for any new full-timers or anyone considering mail forwarding options.

Back in August, Joe and I finally made the move to official full-time status by making the great state of South Dakota our home. After researching our options, we decided on Americas Mailbox in Box Elder as our home away from home residency and we could not be happier with our choice!

From our very first encounter with these folks we have been consistently thrilled with the level of customer service and attention to detail we have received. Whether it was our last-minute call for a site in their RV park, providing us with details on what to expect when we changed our licenses, or the spot-on mail forwarding service since August, the level of service and follow through has been top-notch.

In addition to the services mentioned above, Americas Mailbox also handled our new registration for the truck and transfer registration for our current rig. From the first contact to inquire about the process to receiving our new plates each and every communication was returned almost immediately. The registration for both vehicles was amazingly fast, taking less than a week even during the busy holiday season! Honesty, I can’t say enough about this group of professionals … in short – THEY ROCK! ๐Ÿ˜€

In a day and age when personal customer service, honesty and truth in advertising seems to be growing extinct, it’s important to point out when we do find a prince among thieves. If you’re in the market for a mail forwarding company that will make you feel like a part of the family (in a good way lol ย ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) I highly recommend giving Americas Mailbox a call today.

Americas Mailbox handles –ย Mail Forwarding, Mail Receiving, South Dakota Residency, South Dakota Vehicle Registrations, information about insurance questions. They are located at 514 Americas Way, Box Elder, SD 57719 ย Telephone (866)747-3700 or by clicking ย >>>>HERE<<<<.

That’s all for now. Safe travels everyone!

“So, Where’s Julia Roberts Today?” …

If I had a dollar for every time I got asked that question … well, I’d have a lot more dollars. LoL

better movie

Before we hit the road, and for about 15 years off and on before that, I worked at ‘the” Mystic Pizza. Yep, the one made famous by Hollywood and a very young Julia Roberts. There were several other up and coming actors in that movie too, including Vincent D’Onofrio, (Law & Order) Lili Taylor (Six Feet Under), Annabeth Gish (SOA) even a pre-pubescent Matt Damon. But it was always Julia people wanted to see.

Julia Roberts, Lily Taylor, Annabeth Gish -

Julia Roberts, Lily Taylor, Annabeth Gish –

Picture if you will, a packed house with lines out the door, which was always the case during tourists season. Harried parents gazing around frantically trying to spot what local beer and wines are available; while simultaneously trying to calm their little ones who are strung out on fudge, kettle corn, cotton candy or whatever sugary goodies they snagged earlier while visiting the Mystic Aquarium. Old Mystic Village and The Seaport.

Are you getting the vibe? Okay good. ๐Ÿ™‚

So, what do you think the first thing out of the “designated orderer’s” (yes, there almost always is one) mouth is?

Yep, you guess it … “So, where’s Julia Roberts today?!?!?”

Visitors asked for her so much management put a Julia mannequin on the top shelf in the downstairs wait station so we could just point and smile. Yes, really. I used to like to say “Oh, she’s having a bad hair day so she’s outback doing dishes. Why? Did you want to say Hi?”

julia doll

This almost always got a chuckle from the person asking for Julia, not to mention a look of relief from the kids in the party old enough to know their parent was being dorky. ๐Ÿ™‚ Of course, a close 2nd question was “Can you get me some soup crackers right away!!!”. ย Yes, I always had a couple of packages in my apron. What can I say… I was a professional. ๐Ÿ˜‰

On the day I hung up my apron for good, I thought if I never heard either of those questions again I’d be a happy camper, literally!

But guess what?

After nearly three years, 1,060 days to be exact … I miss working with the public. I miss the choreographed chaos of the dining room floor. I miss the foul-mouthed, raunchy joke telling, cooks and support staff in the back of the house. It was like watching magic when everything meshed together in perfect synchronicity.

I can’t believe I just wrote that, but it’s true. I. Miss. It. Being as nomadic as we are, finding a server or bartender job isn’t really an option. Sure, I could probably get one somewhere. But then what happens when Mr. G. gets a call to be somewhere else in less than a week? I’d feel like a schmuck for bailing.

So, what’s an extrovert who’s been masquerading as an introvert to do?

Jump on Facebook and meet and greet of course!! LoL

Sure, I’ve been on FB for a while now. But up until recently it was mostly just to lurk and stalk my kids. There are a few full-time RV groups I joined and I’ve made some great on-line friends in them. But I hadn’t really been taking advantage of the seemingly endless lists of all kinds of groups.

Book Club Groups – Blogging Groups – Writers Groups – Health & Fitness ย Groups … heck there are even peri-menopausal groups for crazy cranky old broadsย ย nearly 50 and fabulous women like me! ๐Ÿ˜‰

What fun! And what a great way to meet people when you’re stuck in the RV for 14 hours a day when hubby is at work. Now that we have the additional truck it won’t be so bad because I’ll ย be able to get out and about. But sometimes meeting people is hard … especially when you’re out of practice like I am.

So here are my questions –

1) Are we friends on FB yet? If not, you can find me >>>> hereย <<<<ย Send a request and I’ll be sure to accept. Ha! I guess that makes me a “sure thing”. (Easy Mr. G. … take a deep breath. LoL ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

2) Can you recommend any great groups that you belong to?

It feels great to be getting “out and about” and socializing again. ย I wonder if I should be concerned that I’m calling the “Cyber-hood” out and about … nah, I’ll worry about that later. ๐Ÿ™‚

And now I’ll leave you with my throwback Thursday pic. I know, I know, it’s a cheesy kissy-face selfie but it’s the only one I could find. The ironic thing is, it was taken 3 years ago to the day. Yes, I was tan … in December. I used to be a fake ‘n baker. :-/

Nooksack Falls … and Blueberry Happens

I thought yesterday was going to be one of those days you wait for all week. You know the kind I mean? Hit the snooze button a few too many times. Grab coffee and snuggle back under the covers for a while, leisurely planning your day off. Yeah, one of those days.

It started off well enough, snooze button and all. Coffee was great, but not really a leisurely affair. Hubby was excited to check things out on our new (to us) truck (More about that later.) and I was excited about doing a little exploring toward Mt. Baker. I figured we’d find a place to take a nice long hike seeing as it was a rest day from P90 for me. ๐Ÿ™‚

Quick shower done, play clothes on, our Shakeology ready almost ready to take with us… and this happened.

I don't say "M*@* F*@*" very often ... What? Stop laughing! Okay, okay. But today I said it LOUD and with conviction this morning! Yeah, this happened. Ooops, that's gonna stain. Oh well, blueberries happen. And hey, it gave me a good excuse to try on my Society of Beer Travelers shirt that was too tight before Shakeology! Mmmm ... speaking of beer ... I just might be swapping out my yellows today.

And hey, it gave me a good excuse to try on my Society of Beer Travelers shirt that was too tight before Shakeology! Mmmm … speaking of beer … I just might be swapping out my yellows today.

Uggg… I’ll admit it. Part of me wanted to climb back under the covers with my laptop and a cup pot of coffee. But I took my own advice of “Suck it up butter cup!” used about a roll of paper towels and a half of bottle of windex but got the job done. I’m glad I didn’t stick my head back under the covers because this was my reward.

Even with the overcast and sprinkles (that we’ve come to love here in the Pacific Northwest ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) it was a beautiful day.

We didn’t get in the hike I was hoping for, but we did get to check out a raging waterfall. Nooksack Falls is located off WA State Highway 542. I didn’t realize it at the time, but the falls here were featured in the movie The Dear Hunter. Cool bit of trivia. ๐Ÿ™‚

I think I was shivering a bit here.

The Nooksack River making its way to flow over the 88 foot drop …

Nooksack River

Pooling up just a bit before the plunge …

And there she goes …

Like a river that don’t know where it’s flowin’ …

It took a left turn and it just kept going. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Are you humming along to Bruce Springsteen now? You’re welcome. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, we ended up making an early day of our exploration because we had shopping and errands to run. But we had fun!

Oh yeah, before I forget. Here’s a quick pic of the newest member of the Gibberish Clan! We haven’t named him yet but hope to soon. We still have Lil Ms. White with us. There’s just way too much sentimental value there to put her out to pasture just yet and I love having her to myself. Well, I should rephrase that. I will love having her to myself once we get the registration processed through South Dakota. Our friends at America’s Mailbox are handling it for us so I’m sure it will all go smoothly. ๐Ÿ™‚

Now, back to names for the new guy … does anything come to mind? The only thing we know for sure is that is has to be a rough and rowdy boy’s name. Because as you can see, he’s pretty bad ass looking. Right??

He’s almost as tall as our H.O.W. and has really big “hips”. I don’t think a female persona would be too happy with us talking about her big hips all the time. LoL So a guy’s name it will be.

That’s all for now. As always, thanks for stopping by.

Don’t forget to send me a name idea if you have one! ๐Ÿ™‚

Semiahmoo Bay – Blaine, WA

We took advantage of the sunshine yesterday and strolled along the Semiahmoo Bay in Blaine, Washington.

That’s White Rock, Canada across the bay. Still no passports in hand, so traveling into Canada will have to wait for another day.

Semiahmoo Park has a great paved bike path as well as gravel trails along the peninsula that leads to The Resort and Marina. Drayton Harbor is to the east of the roadway.

It was hard to capture the brilliant red of these berries but they were so pretty against the blue of the harbor …

Semiahmoo Marina reflecting the setting sun …

The shadows started getting longer, so it was time to head back. The walk from the parking lot at The Cannery Lodge to the Semiahmoo Resort is about 1.25 miles, a perfect 2.5 mile stroll round trip. ๐Ÿ™‚

But not before I stopped to feed the “horse” … lol

This was one of the coolest dead trees we’ve seen. It sort of looked like Pegasus to me. ๐Ÿ™‚

20141123_155410ย Happy Monday folks!
