If you are looking for a place to park your big rig, small rig, tent, or even just looking for a cabin close to down-town Salt Lake City the KOA is a great option. The park is located just about two and a half miles from Temple Square, Utah’s most visited tourist attraction.
It’s a wonderful walk as the streets are wide and provide spacious sidewalks. If the walk is a bit too much for you, no worries – the park offers a free shuttle at the top of every hour. While we were there in April, 2013 the Utah Transit Authority also opened another light rail going from the Salt Lake Airport to Downtown Salt Lake City – a great deal at only $2.50 per person.

The park map –
The park itself is large and as you can see on the map (click link to manipulate map) it offers plenty of options for rigs of every size and stays of every duration. The sites are spacious and provide some nice shade for when the weather is hot.
There was quite a bit of construction going on in the park during our stay, but the improvements being made were worth the small noise inconvenience during the day.
In addition to upgrading and enlarging many of the sites in the long-term section of the park, they were pouring stylish concrete patios for many of the sites in the KOA camp portion as well. We moved into one of the newly upgraded sites and were more than happy to have a poured patio again.
As with any business, RV parks especially, the quality of the stay is directly impacted by the quality of the staff. The camp hosts and entire staff at the SLC- KOA were superb! Everyone from check-in to check-out was friendly and helpful, offering assistance, information, and on several occasions, even a ride in one of the buggies while I was carrying the clothes basket to the laundry room.
In addition to helping to keep the grounds pretty, The Sunshine Lady, a.k.a. Marlene, is a wealth of information with regards to enjoying and making the most of your visit to Salt Lake City – from area attractions to where to find the best flowers in town, she can point you in the right direction.
The amenities are updated and well maintained at the SLC- KOA. The laundry room was always clean and has plenty of machines. There are two facilities on site but I only used the one located by the pool.
Although we don’t typically make use of the restroom and shower facilities, I always make it a point to check them out. The bath houses were roomy, bright and clean.
The playground, pavilion, media center, and pool are all in one area – very convenient.
If you’re not traveling with your rig or perhaps you’re expecting more guests than you can comfortably accommodate, SLC-KOA offers a couple of cabins as well.
There are two extra-large bay vehicle washes on the property as well as the propane filling station.
The Salt Lake City KOA was a great place to stay and I highly recommend it if you’re in the area for work or play. The staff was most accommodating and their warmth and hospitality made us feel welcome and at home during our stay.
